See photos and videos from our past trips
For those new to our sport or those wanting to start off on flatter waters, our guided trips onto San Diego Bay are a great way to get your feet wet. Because of the consistent action these trips are also a great way to introduce your kids to kayak fishing.
When the conditions are right hundred fish days are not uncommon. Besides the great fishing action bay fishing can be very relaxing, no swells or waves to deal with and lots of beautiful scenery. It can be quite impressive to fish right up next to an Aircraft carrier. Our catch consists mainly of spotted bay bass, sand bass and halibut, but you may also run into croaker, rays and even Bonefish. This is light tackle fishing at its best.
We spend between six and eight hours teaching you the basics of kayak fishing. We also cover all the safety issues involved in kayak fishing as well as the issues specific to fishing and being safe in the bay.
Our one-day guided bay fishing trips are limited to four people per guide. This will assure everyone gets plenty of individual instruction.

Surf Safety and Paddle Skills Class
We see more and more people that get into kayak fishing go head first into the sport without learning the proper skills to keep them safe or to just paddle efficiently.
More gear is lost or damaged, and more people run into trouble in the surf zone than any other area in kayaking. For that reason we are offering a three-hour surf survival, paddle and safety skills class with one of our expert guides in San Diego.
We will teach you the proper techniques needed to launch and land a loaded kayak through the surf. This is not a surfing class we are not interested in catching waves, what we want is to get our expensive fishing gear to and from the fishing grounds intact. Catching waves at times in unavoidable and we will teach you how to handle that situation when it arises. We also cover proper paddling techniques and many safety aspects involved in kayak fishing such as self rescue, how to empty a flooded kayak while on the water and many other things every kayaker should know.
This is truly one of the more fun classes we do so be prepared to have a great time and learn a lot. After this class you will be intimately familiar with your kayak and you will be ready to tackle any situation.
Fee is $75 per person with a minimum of three people and a maximum of eight.
Kayaks can be provided for those that need them, bring your own if you prefer. Wetsuits recommended as you will be getting wet. All classes held at La Jolla Shores Jim Sammons will conduct La Jolla classes. Pre registration and payment are required. Please download and fill out one of our waivers.
We regularly do this as a group class but are available for private lessons also. Dates of our group classes are posted on our upcoming events forum.
